Who is the Errant Modiste?
“Ordinary life does not interest me. I seek only the high moments. I am in accord with the surrealists, searching for the marvellous.” ~ Anaïs Nin The Diary of Anaïs Nin, Vol. 1
Bienvenue, welcome to The Errant Modiste, Yvonne P. Welsh’s salon.
Like a knight-errant, travelling in search of adventures in which to exhibit military skill, prowess, and generosity, I’ve journeyed through various careers, typical happy wanderer gigs, bartender, DJ, wandering into careers in advertising, finance, apparel, Film & TV, appeasing my interests and curiosity, no definitive strategy, mostly a means to an end in support of my free-spirited lifestyle and cross country travels in search of the sweet spot.
The sweet spot, the nexus where talent, effort and engagement intersect, generating the greatest expression of power and potential; it is the culmination of life-affirming feelings, you feel light, you’ve found bliss, serenity… the marvellous.
If you play tennis or golf, you can relate to the stimulation of hitting the sweet spot of your racquet or club, it resonates with good vibes; at that moment, the ball connects with the centre of your racquet or club head, discharging a sublime burst of power, thrusting the ball to its intended target, seemingly, with almost no effort and you’re in the groove, you’ve found your flow.
No matter what other careers I’ve explored, the sweet spot for me lives at the crossroads of creativity and collaboration, where I’m engaged with other creative free-spirits, designing and creating from the conceptual through to the tangible …making things happen
I registered for this blog space many moons ago, with the intent of chiming in weekly on the fashion blog zeitgeist with something pithy…well that didn’t happen, mostly because skewing towards the nerdy, and even though as a Fashion Designer I analyse trends for clients, I had no profound interest in the rapaciousness of latest trends, style tips and wardrobe hauls that populated the interwebs at the time. Tending to overthink things, I spent a lot of time deliberating over what point of view to present when I really should have just hit the publish button to begin the chronicles of my adventures as your regular, everyday, non-celebrity fashion designer navigating the fashion industry while bootstrapping my own sustainable fashion brand. Consequently, there will be musings on all things related to the fashion industry, stripping away the perceived glamour; with a focus towards history, sustainability and diversity (Gah! I hate what that word has become to mean but that’s for another post).
I look forward to your comments, ideas and engaging conversation.
